As if the Spirit 111 wasn’t going to be eye-catching enough, the custom, hand-made saloon seating provides a clue as to what she might look like down below.

Currently undergoing interior fit out, the Spirit 111 is on track to launch next summer. With her coachroof recently fitted, a peak through the fan windows reveals curved internal walls and intricate features.

The bespoke seating and bed heads for the Spirit 111 are being built by Will Fennell and Ben Jackson; both former employees of Spirit Yachts, who have teamed up with the company on this landmark project.

Designed and developed by Spirit Yachts, the first of a two-part seating arrangement is made out of strips of 10mm x 10mm American Walnut, which in total length reach 1.2km. The sofa, which took over 1,000 man hours to build by hand features sweeping curves to complement the ebb and flow of the seamless wooden interior designed by Rhoades Young.

When asked what the most challenging aspect of the sofa was, Will explained: “The whole piece has been technically very challenging. Every aspect has been taken to a finite degree to achieve the standards required. It’s a collection of micro decisions taken almost continuously throughout the build, which come together to produce the end result. Maintaining a focus on all the details has been hard work; you get so engrossed in it that you don’t see the culmination until the very last moment.”

Will and Ben are now focusing on building the second element of the saloon seating, which will be in the same style but approximately half the size. Will commented: “Despite the smaller size, the second piece will take just as long to build as the first element due to the complex design.”
